Where did the plurals go? Ninjas took them!

[identity profile] terrycloth.livejournal.com 2006-09-15 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
According to dictionary.com, Random House and American Heritage both think 'ninjas' is an acceptable alternate plural.

The plural of nunchaku is nunchaku.

and there is no such thing as a "nunchuck", unless it's some kind of catholic arbalest.

What about a sword-chuck?

Those were created by someone who was not known for his spelling. It is suspected that the proper spelling should be sward-chaku, but there is no proof of such.

Oops. ANONYMOUS'D!

[identity profile] errickfoxy.livejournal.com 2006-09-15 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Sword-chucks are a modern invention, by an English speaker, so they would follow English conventions. Thus, "Sword-chucks, yo."

According to my dictionary, nunchuk and nunchaku are equivalent, and the plural is either nunchaku or nunchakus.

'nunchucks', however, is right out.
