I had previously believed that Marie Calendar chicken pot pies were the Best Pot Pie man had to offer, at least from the frozen food section. Filled with rich, slightly creamy gravy and very large chunks of chicken, as well as surprisingly crisp veggies and a firm slightly powdery crust, it was The Pie for me when I was thinking chicken.
Recently, however, they've released the Honey Roasted Chicken pot pie, which is an order of magnitude even MORE flavorful and delicious. Filling and delightful, I won't say that I can't imagine a better ideal for the pot pie, but I won't ever get to eat it out of a box. It would require actual human interaction and precise fine-tuning, the work of a chef hired to cook for me and me alone, researching and devoting his life towards making me the perfect pie.
When I say "Delicious" it is shorthand for sweet, warm, and meaty, when I say "Delightful" I mean it radiates bliss over my tongue and into my stomach like some sort of atomic glee battery. Could I thrust my head into a gravy-filled tank of the filling to this pie, I would drown of my own will. Could the crisp crunch of the crust wrap other foods in its embrace, I would give them to be enshrined within it and devour them with a mixture of remorse (over the destruction of such perfection) and joy (at the sensation of the give between my teeth).
It's good pie. That's all I'm saying.
