Recordkeeping: Syberia COMPLETE
Dec. 9th, 2022 07:40 pmIn Syberia, you are Kate Walker, or as a particular NPC likes to pronounce it and I've found myself helplessly mimicking, "Kate Wal-KER!" And boy howdy, do you do some walking. You're an American lawyer in the French Alps (to start) to handle the sale of a toy company. They make automatons. Cool ones, too. It'd be a real coup for the buying company, if only the lady in charge hadn't died the day before you got there. But ... there is another. The heir to the company may be alive, somewhere out east...
Syberia's a pretty engaging and beautifully-rendered train trip of a game across rusty, dusty, antiquated European locations. There are several quibbles I had with the plot (including the constant intrusion of Kate's New Yorker friends, who absolutely suck the oxygen out of the room every time the phone rings) but I ultimately can't care as much about that as I do the atmosphere here. Even being softlocked a few times by program glitches didn't stop me from enjoying this game.
All six episodes of the Syberia playlist are up on Youtube. I'll be playing Syberia 2 in early January. Please look forward to it.
