Recordkeeping: Pentiment COMPLETE
Nov. 16th, 2022 03:39 pmI feel like this game is for a very, very specific kind of person. The kind that hears "a combatless RPG set in the world of an illuminated manuscript where your choices cause ripple effects across several generations but there's no failure state and it's hard to tell how the story would be different unless you replay it from scratch" and go HELL YEAH I'LL PUT UP WITH ANYTHING TO SEE THAT.
I did. The interface is clunky, the journal system is difficult, there's a lot of exploring that FEELS aimless but could matter?? or not?? and ...I dunno. I was enthralled but I feel like this is gonna get chewed out for Having Problems across the wider gamespace.
It's a very, very, VERY elaborate choose your own adventure, very much designed in ways that will play on your curiosity if you're a certain kind of person. Like "huh, what if I X" or "What if Y but also B" and "What if I made every one of these people hate my guts, what happens then?"
This sort of fills the Disco Elysium space (complete with character who is Having A Big Sad About His Family) but I really don't feel it's AS GOOD as Disco Elysium. It is good, though. Will play again. Will not stream. Too much text.
