I've been on a streak lately of starting games and just not finishing them. Not exactly abandoning, not formally. But just letting them kind of pile to the side as I dabble for an hour and then toss another one aside.
I hate doing that. It feels like I've started dozens of projects I may never glance at again and that's incredibly disorganized and discouraging. To stop myself from thinking about it, I installed another new game and played through it resolutely.

Taken as a stopgap measure to prevent me from thinking about anything, Evoland isn't bad!

Okay that's pretty damning. Uh... this has some ideas. You start off in a very Game Boy style milieu, and gradually earn the right to color, to 3D, to music and sound, to collectables...

The writing is mostly "Hey, REFERENCES! Huh? Eh? Huh? Yeah? You GET IT, RIGHT? Let me make it more obvious: REFERENCE!!" and that's as always some nerd-ass bullshit where saying something is like something else is both the setup and punchline, but I do that too so whatever.

Also the subtitle on the LOGO is "A short story of adventure video games evolution" so don't expect, y'know. Grammar.

Anyway.

Not that bad a game, I enjoyed myself enough to play through it and 100% the collectables. I don't feel bad about doing that. Decent time.

It is definitely a game of references, but also short enough to not be too tedious about everything.
