Anyway, spoilerspace.
385/2 Days has a lot of work to put in.
It has to humanize (a couple of) the villains, who... y'know. They're the villains. Disney doesn't spend a lot of time making their villains into people, so I was expecting the same of Kingdom Hearts. But no, you're supposed to care about at least some of them and this is why.
It has to stick to canon. How do you make people who don't have hearts care for each other? Well, uhhhh you mostly just have them mention how weird it is they have feelings but not hearts. Or deny they have feelings and then show them anyway. Personally I do not believe in this "Nobodies are without hearts" canon because I think it's not backed up. Emotionally numb, sure. But that's called depression.
It has to drop some foreshadowing for what'll happen to the characters later. This is a little heavy-handed, as Roxas gazes into the distance and loudly hopes that he'll NEVER have to leave his best friends. Oof.
Also there's, y'know. A 14th Org 13 member running around in here. That can't last.
Poor number 14. That hurt to watch. Poor Namine, too.
Roxas's weird, emotionally stunted existence also hurt to watch. Begging to know why he exists... boy, I've felt that one.
I did not want to feel emotions for the villains of this one. Particularly not right before I play the games where I bash them in the head repeatedly with a giant key until they die.
Oops.
... Uff. But... up next is Chain of Memories. Cards, though.
Maybe I'll do Birth By Sleep next, for variety's sake.

Date: 2019-01-31 05:08 am (UTC)Sometimes I wonder if taking "These guys have depression," wrapping it in about a billion layers of overly theatrical chuunibyou Kingdom Hearts bullshit, and presenting it as "These guys have NO HEARTS and they have an ominous secret organization and are very edgy and cool but but inside them is a DARKNESS that NO ONE CAN UNDERSTAND, NOT EVEN THEM", is how the Kingdom Hearts series caught fire and flat out took over the Hot Topic/DeviantArt scene.
... God, the biggest mistake this series ever made for what they were aiming for was cutting Vincent, wasn't it.
