Tonight was a night of failures and rapidly abandoned games, really.

To Burn In Memory: A very flowery IFComp entry that showed up on Steam. Twine-based. Uses a slightly hard-to-read, very small font which isn't adjustable. Has a flashback feature that's difficult to really grasp. I didn't feel like I understood the plot at all from the little I played and I got tired of squinting, so I stopped.

Enigmatus 2: The Mists of Ravenwood - The opening cutscene involves the main character talking about the previous game, and I realized we don't actually OWN the previous game. One hidden object game is basically interchangeable for another, but that still feels wrong. I just can't bring myself to play this one out of order, somehow.

ERROR: Human Not Found - NOBODY SAID THERE'D BE MATH. A charming if incredibly stilted and awkwardly written visual novel with some logic/programming puzzles and then it asked me to calculate binary into actual digits and I got scared and ran away. Nope nope nope.

At the very least, the first and last of those were free games I'd had sitting on my list for a while. I'm glad I finally bumped them off.

I enjoyed Enigmatus 2, my impression is that it's superior to the first one, which I have not played. Artifex Mundi HOPA are said to be the best of the genre, but even if I'm technically enjoying a HOPA it still feels like an idle time-waster, like doing a crossword in a waiting room or something.
