Look, there's a lot of things wrong with Hypnosis.

The character models are deeply zombielike and unsettling. The voice acting is ... acceptable but one-note. The puzzles are overclued and excessively easy. There's a tower-defense-y node-based minigame you can play but you can also skip it with no consequences. There's an in-game shop where you can unlock fetish costumes all the way up to full-on nudity for your (female, of course) character. I think one of these characters is kind of a racist depiction and the autistic programmer guy is ... not sensitively portrayed.

There's a lot wrong with Hypnosis.

But the plot. Oh my god the plot of this thing starts off by dropping off the rails and continues to careen around wildly until it soars off into space and transcends our weak bond of gravity.

Psychiatrist Maya Anderson stepped off a street car to return to work one day instead of going on a vacation with her boyfriend. He vanished from her life for two years. One day she receives a phone call that the clinic he works for IN HER TOWN (???) is having some issues. The patients are acting strange. Complaining about visions of odd figures in masks. And her ex-boyfriend David has gone missing... AGAIN.

Maya arrives on the scene and proceeds to hypnotize everyone she meets within ten minutes of introducing herself. She has a flashlight that blinks disco patterns and isn't afraid to use it, no matter how willing or unwilling the subject. Then she astral-projects herself into their minds to solve all their problems and pry into all their secrets. Ethics? What's an ethics?

The ridiculousness of the plot builds and builds -- now Maya has a native artifact that lets her shoot obstacle-destroying photon beams! Now we're talking with a jealousy-induced recreation of Wolfgang Mozart who just wants to rock out! -- until the finale, which I am absolutely not going to spoil because it had me sitting here SCREECHING WITH LAUGHTER at 4 AM so hard I thought I was going to pass out and pee myself at the SAME TIME.

My face hurts from laughing at this game.

So what I'm going to do is record it.

Not right now, because I don't have the storage space. But by the end of the year I absolutely want to try to get a full-game recording of this thing up on Youtube. My "I have no idea what I'm doing" run took 4 hours, so that's plausible.

There's already a half-hour of it up from someone else but god there needs to be more.

Please, no one let me forget. This was ... this thing WAS and it needs to be documented.

My friend Sword bought this for me for my birthday, which is on the 8th.
Thank you, Sword. Thank you so much for this glorious horrible wonderful THING.

So basically what I'm hearing here is "Okay this is utter kusoge but oh my God you guys this is amazing."

Or, in other words, a confirmation of an old line you once said (I forget where) about how "It doesn't have to be a GOOD game to be an AWESOME game."

And it's true so that works out.
