So I finally learned to cook with the gas stove. Turns out, instead of turning the dial to "lite" (BLEAH) you turn it to, say, 5 and wait for a few seconds, THEN turn it to "lite" (damn it, spell it right) and pfwoomp. So now I have access to the full run of all the stuff I can cook.

For the record, using this stovetop I can make:

Boiled water.
Ramen.
Mac and cheese. (Kraft Dinner for my friends in exotic far-off lands.)
Grilled cheese.
Grilled cheese and ham.
Grilled peanut butter and jelly. (Note: REALLY BAD IDEA. DON'T DO THIS AGAIN.)
Undercooked hamburger.
Overcooked hamburger.
Fried eggs.
Grilled ham and cheese with fried eggs on top.
Scrambled eggs with Stuff in it.
Lime shrimp. (Prepackaged. Still tasty.)

One day I may learn to cook food that doesn't involve starch of any kind! Oh what a glorious day in cooking that will be!

Ahh, crazy Brits! With their chips and their spotted dicks and their Lara Kroft Dinner!

Grilled peanut butter and jelly. (Note: REALLY BAD IDEA. DON'T DO THIS AGAIN.)

Note to self: Try grilling peanut butter and cheese some time.

Gas stoves are great for two things: warming tortillas on an open flame and using a wok. Otherwise, electric stoves will work just fine.

My old roomie used to light her cigarettes on our gas stove. One time, she turned the knob, leaned over the burner, and a giant pfwoomp later, she was missing an eyebrow.

But her cigarette was lit, and I guess that's what matters.

I don't want to know how sleep-deprived you were when you decided to create a grilled PB & J sammich... although I did once see a recipe for a grilled (fried, maybe, it was ) peanut butter and banana sammich.

Remind me to send you my cookbooks that are entirely made of recipes for 5 ingredients or less...

You should try corn on the cob. It requires two things :

1. Water
2. Corn on the cob

Shuck the corn (remove the green stuff and silky stuff). Break off the end if its a bit long, or use a knife to cut it close to the corn-bearing-goodness.

Get a big pot, fill with water about 1/3, add corn, fill with water to about 1/2 full with the corn in the pot. (corn floats, so check it isn't floating.)
Turn on heat.
Put pot on burner, turn heat to a bit past the mid-point (so its more that 50% heat. 60% is about right). Wait for water to start boiling. Count off 7 minutes or a bit more, use tongs to remove corn from pot and pile on a plate.
(If you lack tongs, use two long-handled implements to grab each cob. Long handles are key, boiling water is HOT.)
**Turn heat off!

Wait til corn is just a bit hotter than cool enough to eat, and serve. Preferably with butter and salt or whatever you like :) By the time you are seated, and the corn is buttered/salted/whatever to taste, it will have cooled enough to eat.

Fast, easy, yummy. Assuming you like corn :)

Hey, our stove is like this, too! It says "Light" however. *amused*

It took me a couple of days to figure it out, and I STILL lean back from it when 'lite-ing' the durn thing.
