Last time on SS:FF, basically this happened but in clothing form. Also there were roses and peppermint tea and a dude who stepped straight off the cover of a 1997 edutainment CD-ROM. I'm explictly not here to make fun of anything or anyone, but Tarquin tested that resolve sorely.

I also want to talk for a moment about structure. I'm pretty sure this game does have an ending/credits. I'm not sure how to trigger them. I know there are future unlockable careers (we have like, one of five unlocked) but I'm not sure how to trigger those. I know there are lots of events, but... you get the picture.

There may be in future posts a lot of skimming, or I may just at some point go "Okay, y'know what? This is thirty bucks on Amazon, do y'all have a 3DS?" and wave my hands and drop out of blogging it. Not from disinterest, god no, but because I'm kinda microdocumenting everything JUST IN CASE it's important and I kinda want to just lay around and BINGE the game nonstop. Kinda wish this had multiple save slots.

Consider this the extended-trial narrative demo version. We'll see if we make it to the credits, I -want- to make it to the credits, but I wish to explictly make no promises.

You'll recall that yesterday I picked up a makeup kit. This is kind of a neat thing, and it means we have access to play around with Ozma's makeup. We can either do it in prepackaged kit form and let the game take the wheel or do a custom job ourselves. I experiment with the custom option for a while, but ... mhf. It comes out very "clown" because I genuinely don't know what I'm doing as far as matching makeup against facial tone, and whatnot.

For now it's back to work in the boutique for Ozma, but I'll have to get out to the beautician's and start to learn things about makeup soon. Working through shop stock and making customers happy takes up a good chunk of morning though, but before long I've unlocked a new feature: Chaining. The customer comes in for a pair of pants, then turns around and asks for a top to match, or comes in for shoes and leaves with a whole makeover. Even Evie stops in, having followed a trail of smiling people back to Ozma's shop.

Just after a lucrative sale where the customer asked for a total makeover in beige of all things (I am not here to judge!), Sophie ducks in. She was doing some housekeeping and found something nifty:

She's sharing because of an interesting note she found in the middle: There was a LOT of remodeling done on the shop. Every time the Grandma Duo found themselves with lots of stock from a particular brand, they'd redo the shop to suit that brand and sell through it faster. I try it out for the heck of it, to make the place a little more warm and inviting-looking.

No idea what brand this suits, but it looks nice to me and it triggers a flood of customers so it must be a good idea. I even recognize some of the repeats on sight!

Maureen here wanted some BOLD SHOES. Presumably so she can kick ass and deploy the Joestar family final secret technique with more grace. Around about this point I was back up over $2000, so I popped out to the exhibition hall to stock up on some Streetflow and maybe a little more cutesywear. Just outside the hall though...

RICKY INTERCEPT. He wants us to pop out to Beaumonde Arena for some reason, and it's like... right there next to the exhibition hall. Hmm. Duty to Ricky, or duty to our shop. What's it gonna be? ... Shop first. I slorp up a bunch of clothes that sear the eyes in delightful ways. THEN it's out to the Arena, which turns out to be one of the many venues Ricky runs. He's upset that it goes empty most of the time, there just isn't enough reason to hold a show or concert here. Am I here to represent the Imperial City in mortal combat?

Oh. Well that's basically the same thing, right? This revelation triggers another CGI movie, cycling through girls in various styles of fashion showing their stuff in front of psychedelic CGI backgrounds. I like to imagine this is what Ricky's describing as he waves his arms around. As he finishes, there's a sound from behind the curtain in the background: "I told you he wasn't asking her out!"

...hi, Sophie. Hi, Callie. Heard everything, did you? Anyway Ricky lays it on the line: He wants Ozma to put together outfits as part of a fashion showdown, a different theme every show and every theme a surprise. Kind of the Iron Chef of the fashion world.

Callie pops for being a model, since that's kind of what she DOES, but Ricky wants The People to come and judge on who the models should be. "The more satisfied customers you have," he tells Ozma, "the more tickets we'll sell. I'll set up something here at the dome so you can see how many people have bought tickets." Once the Ricksdale Rickydome is sold out, he'll send notice. We do get to see the theme for the first show in advance, though...

I can do this. I was born to do this. As it turns out, there's only three seat blocks (out of 10) left unsold, so that's set to trigger off SOON. There's only one thing we can do: Ignore it. I swap outfits and head out to listen to some rock music.

Ozma, lead singer of the Air Band, takes a few minutes to rock out hard at ... nobody, actually. There's not much call for early-morning antics at the Live Rock Cafe. If we want to really do anything here I'll have to play the game in the late evening I suppose. Oops. Okay I guess let's try the beautician!

I did not mean to snap one off while she was blinking. Oops. Well. Downstairs we can have Ababella take her best shot at putting makeup on us, or we can go upstairs and...

Tarquin here has a lab which, uh... is of no use to us right now. Hm. I'm not sure what that's for actually. We'll figure it out later. I have Arabella dab on a "natural" look for me, because why not try it out...

Well. It has a slight look of wide-eyed horror about it I suppose but it's not offensive to me. On the way out the door however...

Oh dear. Haven't we seen this before? Isn't this how the demo started? Yep, this "Xiaoling" girl is hard at work sketching up Callie while talking about how cool she is, and the whole thing unfolds as foretold in prophecy.

As soon as I walk back in the shop, Callie shows up again with a special gift:

The shop window is, after all, the face of our store. Nobody wants to walk into a blank face, that's just creepy and wrong. You need to have bright appealing eyes to get people into your gaping maw of a retail shop... okay sorry wait this analogy is creepy let's start over: PUT STUFF IN YOUR WINDOW TO ATTRACT CUSTOMERS. Okay better. Anyway, sometimes if you set up a good outfit in your windows, people will walk straight in and buy the whole deal head-to-toe off the mannequin. Also sometimes it will come to life and be Kim Cattrall.

(Maybe not that last part. Sorry again. Then again, we are in a literal dollhouse WHO KNOWS.)

Hilariously, right behind Callie is Xiaoling, who wants to dress like Callie. I don't have exactly the right outfit to assemble Calliewear, unlike the demo, but I get her mostly sorted and she runs off to the cafe for a drink.

We follow her out there, do her make-up, do her hair...

...teach some life lessons to Arabella and Noor...

...get jumped by Tarquin and Noor back at the shop, as they inform me that I'm needed to help out in both places, but THIS TIME I'm in the FULL VERSION so there's no "buy the real game" message tacked on... and we're done with that event! I think. ... Xiaoling never actually showed up at the shop, so I assume she's got the real Callie pinned down over coffee somewhere to discuss herself. Either way on that note, I think we're golden for now.

... Wait, who's this?

Speaking of Golden. Rainbow here provides an incredibly useful service: She'll analyze all the screenshots I take for the blog and pluck new color information out of them. Those new colors go straight into the hair-dye and makeup kits. Me and my fourteen in-game pages full of photos thank her, because once we've analyzed them for color information we can DELETE the things.

We can also show Rainbow the colours and have her offer... aheh. Colour commentary. Some of these are straight-up hilarious. I kind of want to document them all, but some colours are only found in the winter, or spring, or... y'know. Seasons not summer.

With those words of wisdom, let's leave that at that for now.
Hopefully I'll remember to check out the rock club and get screens later tonight.

This game gets weirder every day. For sunshine who is really into all the aspects of fashion, this is probably a godsend, but otherwise, still really weird.

Poor Tarquin. In a game all about being the Rainbow Brite-esque bringer of light and color and FASHION into a fashionless world, he... needs help.

As we discussed in IM, I really need to get Xiaoling to appear and go through the Callie tour so I can unlock hair salon options besides "Surprise Me" because the current surprise is a major roadblock in my attempts to look at Celine and think, "That's me." (I'll, uh, pass on the makeup, though.) So, this helps a lot in getting me there, since now I have a better understanding of why she wasn't appearing on my end (which would be because I haven't met Arabella and unlocked that shop yet.) So, thanks for the help!

I really want to get some shots of Celine, but I feel like she's kind of a WIP and I don't have anything to show off until I'm done putting her look together, which will be after I get the hair fixed and maybe a few more daring Exhibition Hall raids. In the meantime, I obviously have this game if the need to do anything multiplayer arises!
