I seem to be quite briskly hopping through my Xbox 360 library, which is a bit of a surprise to me as I had really planned to be working on the PS2 and Steam backlogs for a while. I am nothing if not intensely distractable, though. My derp is legend.

So here we have Halo 3 ODST, the spinoff/expansion sequel to Halo 3 (which I have not played) focusing on the common grunts who are all played by actors from Firefly. This means that the only two Halo games I've really dug into are both the "regenerating shields, non-regenerating health" ones, as opposed to every other game in the series which has regenerating shields tied to a Tony Stark-esqe arc reactor that self-destructs if your shields give out.

I'm fine with the health thing, thank you.

This was More Halo then, and I like Halo. I'm still not actually GOOD at it, but I enjoy the games and setting. My favorite thing about this particular Halo is the collectable radio play they built in, which is tied to finding secrets in the big free-roamy city level you spend most of the game exploring.

There's a helpful AI trying to help you find these secrets, so any time you're walking around and car horns go off but only on one side of the street, and a street sign changes from "Don't Walk" to "Keep Left" as you stare at it, you're likely close to one of those secret collectables. I love this, it really rewards paying attention to your surroundings. It's not as subtle as "Ooh there's a different wall texture here!" but I am not sure this is a terribly subtle game ANYWAY.

So, that's that checked off. I'm actually a bit sad in a way... I can tell I'm not good at Halo, but I can also tell if I sat and ran through the campaign four dozen times on gradually increasing difficulty settings or teamed up with a Firefight co-op group a few times a week, I could GET good at Halo. It's not an insurmountable thing. I probably never will though. I can't tell if that's sad or not. On one hand, oh gosh I'd be GOOD AT HALO, what a valuable skill to cultivate. On the other hand, I seem to have chose a path of varied incompetence over focused specialization.

Mmh. Oh well!

To quote Adventure Time: "Sucking at something is just the first step to being sorta good at something."
