So we TRIED to go see Howl's Moving Castle. That didn't work. But we did drive along long enough to...

- ...find the local comic book shop, which isn't local and sells CDs mostly. Okay, sure, but COMIC BOOKS. And Heroclix. Must feed addiction.

- ...Framingham, MA. This is a town operated entirely by Freemasons, whose singular goal is to frame ham. Either framing ham for crimes, or nailing it to walls. Also they stole the road we were supposed to be on and took it home with them, and refused to give it back to us because we aren't members. It was sad.

- ...we did NOT at any point find the movie theater.

- ...however, we also did not drive to Boston OR New Jersey. ("We seem to have hit the Atlantic. Are we there yet?") Success!

- ...and the wolf's pretty sure he knows where the theater is now. This is probably good.

- ...I like hyphens. - - - - - - - !

- ...Oh, and we managed to get [livejournal.com profile] sirkalen another level of Driving Proficency. Soon he'll be elegable for the Prestige Class "MA Driver" and he'll be able to pull sweet-ass driving stunts like using a rotary without killing anyone.

We're gonna watch Casablanca now.

Not NJ, maybe, but another world...

What the sqrl forgot to mention was that although we didn't actually drive to any other state, or into the sea, we did go to ANOTHER WORLD [reverb] ...

... the SHOPPER'S WORLD, to be specific. No, really, it's like a whole extra planet right here in MA, composed ENTIRELY of multi-lane highways in which every lane is turn-only and little strip-malls packed so tight there's no room for streets between them. In order to get there you have to take roads whose names are in 'moon language' (actually, the natives came up with 'em, but the sqrl says he can't tell 'em from moon-people-speak, so, eh.) and if you turn around to visit a store again, you find yourself rail-roaded onto the highway out of town, from which there are no exits. The moon-people have your money, no need to stay...

So, yeah, I drove to another planet. This TOTALLY qualifies me to take prestige Driving Classes. Or at least to not feel bad about being unable to find a movie theater in a giant strip-mall farm. -.-;

Oh, *there*

Yes, I've been to Shopper's World many times, usually as passenger to an increasingly frustrated driver. It is *such* fun to find the store you want... only it's on the other side of the road, and no way to get to it. :(

Framingham and S.W. / stripmall-from-the-moon place (sqrl hit the nail on the head, as usual!) are part of my semi-regular stomping grounds. Been living in MA since... well, long enough, OK ? :)

You got through Shopper's World/ stripmall place? You're almost over-qualified for the Prestige Driving Classes :)

Oh, and don't feel bad. Last time I went to a movie theatre in downtown Boston, we got lost after parking in the *theatre's* parking garage :)
I think the theatres around here are half out-in-the-open and half totally-hidden to drive theatre-goers nuts :) Just leave about 15 minutes earlier than you think you need to leave... and try to get directions first. Mapquest or directions from friends; or call the theatre ahead of time and ask for directions. They're used to giving directions :) Directions and extra time don't always help, but sometimes they do :) And get one of those big spiral-bound map books - I'm not just A Passenger. I'm the designated map-reader/navigator, despite my eyesight :) (Someone has to do it, and the driver is busy :) )

Yeah, back roads are good. I don't have them memorized, but I do navigate by them, unless Driver insists on the Big, "Theoretically-Fast-But-Clogged-With-Traffic" routes. The smaller ones may take longer, but wow, are they nicer. And in hot weather, cooler (temp wise as well as style wise).

I keep reminding Driver that it doesn't matter if we get lost, we can consider it a "Drive in the country" :) Driver is a time freak, I'm not :) Driver likes back roads, too, unless pressed for time :)

(which is weird, since as I just said, the Big Routes = Traffic Jams, and he knows it....;)
