So far, best advice seems to be "Do some background reading, pick someone who looks amusing and fun to watch, go to it and good luck."

Also, unrelatedly, Habanero potato chips are a fantastic waking-up aid. Takes you from zero to bolt upright and twitching in thirty seconds or less.
