Watched Equilibrium tonight with the boyfriend. General consensus: It was like Farenheight 451 and 1984 were mugged by the "yay for firearms!" genre of anime in a back alley and stripped of their basic themes, the first twenty minutes are spent with the "SUBTLE" knob cranked to zero and the screenwriters attacking the audience with The Hammer of Plot to be sure everyone's up to speed, AND it proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that Puppies are one of the Tools of the Revolution.

I liked it a lot anyway. Really fun movie to watch, and once it got past the opening it tossed a couple of pitches I didn't see coming. So, yeah, good film. Recommended.

I liked it alot. In fact, I bought it on DVD, and I'm loosely basing a Shadowrun character on John Preston. I was really surprised that they did combats much better than The Matrix (What was it you dubbed it? "Techno-Jesus versus the CyberZombies"?) on a fraction of the budget.

And them just panning back after Preston killed Father and seeing Tae Diggs face laying on the floor was just hilarious IMO

Just love that movie. Love it so much. 1984 meets the Matrix.

'Be careful, Preston. You're treading on my dreams.'

LOVE it!

... is too bloody cool for words. I was even able to overlook the WSOD-Shattering plot hole at the end because it WAS so cool.

And Christian Bale IS the perfect choice for the new Batman.

I love Equilibrium. So does, frankly, everyone I know. But what I wanted to stick up here was that I actually sorta like the fact that the intro scenes are totally unsubtle because it allows them to get the plot set up and out of the way so the rest of the movie can move at a much brisker pace than it otherwise probably would have.

You don't know me and I still love it.

Maybe I love it despite you not knowing me!

Of course, I could just be feverish and bouncing randomly around LiveJournal.

Equilibrium was a wonderful example of a film too good to suck, despite trying in a few places. The gun-fu was hugely implausible (it seemed to rely on a circle of attackers being awed by the amazing gun kata and unable to pull the damn trigger already), the plot had similar holes and gaps, but the tone was spot on. I didn't mind that it should have sucked. I loved it.

(And I had to bite my tongue to keep from singing "Puppies aren't just cute like everyboOOOOoooody suppoOOOOOossses..." at the key doogie moment.)
