Sort of an FFXI update!
Nov. 20th, 2014 10:11 amI've been depressed lately, so I haven't been playing so much. That said, I think I'm starting to perk up and I'm ready to get us back on course -- next update. This one is about snow and chocobo raising.
So far we've been on a fairly gentle course with regards to FFXI. Everything's been laid back, we haven't really struggled or suffered outside the bounds of what I consider normal MMO behavior. That ends tomorrow, as I'm ready to attempt the mission where the game stops pretending to play nicey-nice and starts winging tier-2 middle fingers at the player. (Tier 3 is in reserve for the expansions.)
The rank 5 quest, "Magicite", is where the developers for the first time get directly involved in trying to make the players stop succeeding so much. It inspired Fred Perry to start a comic strip which was my first exposure to FFXI (and which I later bought as a collected book).
As a preview, then: Strip One, Strip Two. Plus, hey! I don't get a dinky little white mage mentor. (Well, I kinda do, but he's on AIM instead of in-game, so functionally I am on my own.)
To put this off, I have been leveling other classes (20 Red Mage, 20 Beastmaster so far), and exploring around. Earlier I found myself in Xarbacard, the most depressing place I've found so far. A barren wasteland of snow and death, populated entirely by skeletons. Just like Massachusetts!
There's a Miku song about it using the actual BGM. On the plus side, Xenosa scavenged up a bunch of useful armor for other classes and is now Warrior level 51. That is HUGELY overleveled for where we should be. I'm confident doing some plot next update and then I'll throw things open to a little voting.
CHOCO-WATCH CORNER!
My chocobo hatched! He's a male and all his stats suck brick, but that's okay because I adore my little defective big-headed derpbird.
I was offered the chance to name him, and you have to pick the name off a list of words. Egad was there like... nothing I liked. At all. Eventually I decided to fall back on naming him like I would if he were, say... a giant robot.

So please give a warm welcome to GALAXY FANTASTIC.
I have no idea how to raise this chocobo. Right now he's just under basic care, but we'll figure more out as we go.
I did take him for a walk!

Apparently he is very good at finding cul-de-sacs. Uhm... good job there, Galaxy.
See you next time.

Oh, snow, if only! It only gets cold enough to snow hereabouts once in a blue moon (or if I'm due to fly). I love snow. ^_^
