FFXI Omake - Special Sneak Preview If You Can Read It!

I go through a lot of text on this blog. Like, I estimate I've had to tear open a couple dozen boxes of superlatives alone just in the last few years. It's okay, we're budgeted for it here at Casa del Wuufensqrl. We've recently moved up to screenshot technology, and you all seem to like these "images" all right.

Occasionally I like to experiment with pushing the envelope further, and FFXI likes to show an awful lot of cutscenes. I thought I'd try out vidcapturing one. Sadly I never played quite enough Marathon to attain the rank of VidMaster, because my vidding sucks.

I've since discovered the cutscene replayer and so this will get shown at its proper place in the narrative (I was literally sprinting through Jeuno going "STOP CUTSCENING AT ME I DON'T WANT TO HAVE A DESTINY RIGHT NOW I JUST WANT TO USE THE AUCTION HOUSE") in my customary text-and-screenshot form, but as a sneak peek and a look at why I don't usually do video capture, I'd like to present this soundless, tiny-texted, framerating-hiccuping glitchmonster of a cutscene video.

Compare that to, say, the official "stuff coming up" trailer Square just released because THIS GAME IS STILL UPDATING WHAT IS THAT OH MY GOD IT'S NOT DEAD.

Anyway, I've been fishing my cares away in FFXIV, so no progress on that boss fight. Please continue looking forward to it.

(Also I do intend to try video again after some troubleshooting and maybe UI adjustments. Unsure.)

Twas a fine recording! It's not as if the game is voice acted at all anyway. I really do like the art style. I'd be intimidated to play it now, since you'd be starting a new expansion pack every time you entered a new area...

And yeah, it looks like that Crystal Prophecy quest starts with you finding THREE RANDOM THINGS. I think their quest editor is permanently set to require that.

Also, holy shiznit! The Live Vana'diel stream is still going? I was watching that back in 2001!

Actually that lots-of-expansion-packs thing is WHY I'm playing it. I really love that, and if I weren't blogging the experience I'd be off running around trying to start every plotline at once and run them all at the same time. If I decide to STOP blogging, that's exactly what I'm going to do.

I still wanna know what server Live Vana'diel is on. I'm curious about if I can come wave at the camera.

[EDIT] I was CONSIDERING keeping a running tally of exactly how many quests demand I Find Three Objects, but I decided that might be depressing. Or work.
