Aside: Suggest characters!
Dec. 5th, 2013 11:47 pmSo hey, let's derail for a second. Are you readerly types enjoying this playthrough of Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines: Ashe Edition? I'm enjoying this. I don't really do roleplaying much in video games, and having a kind of "template" to focus my play around prevents me from wandering too far off-track and getting obsessed with, say, increasingly large explosions.
We also went out to Rifftrax tonight to see Santa Claus Conquers The Martians (I love that movie, no irony) and in a game shop nearby found a cheap used copy of Mass Effect 3, which I hadn't bought yet. (The online-stuff code doesn't work, but it's a collector's edition with the artbook and comic and metal case. So swanky.) The BF mentioned on the ride home that it's going to be interesting seeing me someday play the Mass Effect series as... who? Ashelia B'nargin Shepard?
And y'know. I don't know.
When I was coming up with the suggestions for characters for this playthrough, I went for three "types" (Destructive, Inquistive, Somewhere Between) and mapped characters from games I'd played recently to them for familiarity. But... it really seems to work! Ashe is a great "template" because her motivations and drives ... er, in my twisted uncanonical view ... map well onto game goals.
I've been wondering, therefore: What established characters that I might know -- or character concepts, or ideas, or whatever -- would you like to see pop up if I draw, say... Neverwinter Nights, or Dragon Age, or some other "create-a-character" style game? Who would you want me to be, tomorrow? (Not literally tomorrow. Someday.)
(Aside: If your suggestion is "It's your blog! Do what you want!", please understand that what I want is a helpful audience participation hinge, and what I want is creative ideas that I would not come up with on my own, and that telling me I should just "do whatever I want" is not actually helpful in any way when I'm attempting to spark discussion.)

Date: 2013-12-06 06:35 pm (UTC)Considering most of these RPGs include Obsessively Grabbing Everything Not Nailed Down, I can see this as a problem.
