Kameo Started!
Nov. 25th, 2013 06:22 amKameo starts out pretty briskly!
Within seconds of pushing start, we get right through the backstory: There are some ELVES, and they are shapeshifters. One of these elves is named Kameo, and she is a pretty awesome princess. Her older sister hates her, hates the kingdom, and hates everything because she's not the one chosen to rule, so Kameo sends her to the moon --
I'm sorry, wrong story. Kameo -ignores- her, so her sister Kalus goes off and hooks up with the king of the Trolls, Thorn. Thorn leads an army of trolls...
Wait, I'm sorry, King Thorn here is pretty obviously being played by somebody's WoW Orc Shaman who just hit level 20. Can we get the real character model in h-- this is it? ... Wow okay.
...Thorn leads an army of trolls (ORCS) into the kingdom to raid and pillage and burn and stuff. So, Kameo fights back by transforming into Elemental Warriors, like "Chilla" (Ice Elemental) who can hurl ice spears, "Pummel Weed" (Plant Elemental I guess) who can punch things in the face, and "Major Ruin" (Probably Earth Elemental) who can Morph Ball and roll around. I wonder if Rare are pissed at all that Skylanders caught on and this didn't.
After working through the tutorial, I discover that King Thorn is in fact like TWENTY FIVE FEET TALL. Okay, well, that... that explains an awful lot. Anyway, he smacks the Elemental Warriors straight out of Kameo, her family gets kidnapped, Evil Princess Evil gloats a lot, and Kameo wakes up having to explain herself to the lizardy advisor lady. It seems Kameo was so desperate to save her family she left without the Wotnot, a great book of mystical power that she kinda NEEDS for "commanding the Elemental Warriors" purposes. Without it, someone could do something like... smack her in the head and knock the Warriors out, scattering them across the lands to be collected again.
Damnit Kameo.
Eh, it's a forgivable rookie mistake, since she managed to live through the attack. Let's built up an army and raid his castle! LFG 10man Thorn... wait no. I have to earn the right to be allowed to try again. Ah well, more training. Can you look at things? Can you fly with the wings on your back? Can you kick? Great. You're qualified to be a warrior trainer and thus qualified to take the talking magical book and leave the village.
No wonder this civilization got their butt handed to them.
So: Go out, find the warriors (captured by Shadow Trolls), get them into the book, then power them up and go win. I can do that.
Right now this looks pretty standard, so I won't be documenting it at length. If anything else comes to mind, I'll write it down.

Date: 2013-11-25 03:19 pm (UTC)Is it just me, or is Kameo's Earth/Fire/Ice/Plant elemental system kinda scream "We don't want to do the same boring elemental system every one else does, so let's figure out a NEW system! ...Okay that's hard and also boring so let's just screw around with it just a little and call it good."

Date: 2013-11-25 03:26 pm (UTC)Pummel Weed - Plant.
Snare - Another plant, but "Acid" element.
Rubble - A big pile of ambulatory rocks. Reminds me of Ludo's "rocks friends!" moment. ...Rock, obviously.
Major Ruin - "Spike" element. I'm not sure that's a real element. Armadillo rockthing with spikes.
Ash - DRAGON! Also, fire element.
Thermite - Lava elemental termite.
Chilla - Snow element.
40 Below - Ice Element.
Flex - Electric Element, eel-like fellow.
Deep Blue - Water element.
So mostly, no, I just feel like I'm playing a Pokemon romhack.

Date: 2013-11-25 06:26 pm (UTC)If the person in the comments is right and there were really plans for like 100 collectible monsters and such, that would have been amazing and kind of like a more actiony Space Station Silicon Valley. But I don't know about that.
I will admit I do love the cartoony style of this, though. Aside from a few winces (Kameo's cheekbones are uncomfortably polygonal) the art really works for -me-.
