If Uncharted 1 was Star Wars: A New Hope, Uncharted 2 was Empire Strikes Back. It was darker, harder, meaner. It questioned Drake's resolve, his heroism, and even what it means for him to be a hero. The setpieces were bigger, the budget was more lavish, the action sequences were more elaborate. The highs were higher and the lows were lower. It was, by all accounts, a -better game-.

Much like Empire compared to ANH, I didn't like it anywhere near as much. Oh, it was -effective- at mixing things up and breaking new ground... but I didn't want new ground broken. I wanted more of the same. I wanted a light jokey adventure in a lost ruined catacomb somewhere. I got the catacombs, for a while (once in the middle, once at the end), but the lighthearted escapism was taken more seriously than I wanted, and the characters were... well, more rounded and filled out. I came looking for fluff and got substance.

Well, that's how it goes. I have the feeling from the back-of-the-box description that Uncharted 3 will go full Jedi on me: Dark but with a happy redeeming ending. I have no endurance to sit through that right now.
