So I'm gonna go ahead and admit that I ran out of good ideas for intro text about a week ago. ANIMAL CROSSING, HUH?
Did some island stuff and general running around last night, hooray. Have some pictures of my catches!

...wait, this one's the woof.

But I didn't do much on the island, just enough to build up a nice little buffer of funds. Today I wake up eager to see the museum expansion. Isabelle tells me that someone new is moving in, and I know! It's Blaire! Blaaaaire I will have to go say hello to the fluffy thing. Isabelle also informs me that a shoe store has opened on Main Street. Excellent. Shoes! Isabelle is bracing for a FASHION EXPLOSION.
Boom boom, who's there, IT'S ISABELLE AND SHE'S ALL DRESSED TO KILL. Well... not yet. But soon.
First things first, though. Walk around town, dig up fossils, water all the flowers (of which there are a HUGE AMOUNT now, geez) and generally poke about. Joan is in town, and I ponder buying more turnips, but I think I'll save that until the day's end when I've finalized how much money I have. I water the patch to the left of a flower, then adjust and water the patch to the right of the flower. Then I step forward and water behind the flower. Eventually I accidentally water Teddy, who looks faintly offended.
I am not very good at gardening, you guys. Today's fossil donation: A parasaur skull. Also, Reese is offering extra bells today if you sell her Stinkbugs. ... I'm not even gonna ask about this one. I also swing past T&T Mart...

... and this is probably just as well, because it's not T&S&T Mart or anything. I hike out to check out the Museum Expansion and discover the adorable Celeste, Blathers' little sister, is in charge of a new New Leaf feature.

You can rent a room at the museum and display anything you want there. It's like a home away from home! She also wants to sell me the Silver Net (a celebration of many bugs in the museum) and an "underwater floor", to celebrate how many fish there are in the museum. Naturally I snap both of them up. The Silver Net has a much wider thing-catching radius, so I am absolutely delighted by this.
As to the Underwater Floor...

It has a certain appeal to it.
As for the shoe shop, it doesn't open for another 40 minutes. I wander around. Catch some fish. Mallary wants to visit, so I bring her by my place. She starts gawking.

AW YEAH. Ducks cannot resist my AWESOME PAD.

Okay, wait. Try harder. Resist, Mallary, resist.
Eventually she leaves and I wander by town hall. Isabelle suddenly remembers that the townspeople wanted to hold a ceremony for that museum project thingie, so I shrug and give the go-ahead.

It goes pretty much like you'd expect. Then it's back to town hall so I can see how much it would cost to make a balloon arch.

Are these balloons plated in SOLID GOLD or something? Are they weighted down with individual tangerine-sized rubies? Still, it was specifically requested. I think about it a while, then plant my tongue on the approval form. Isabelle informs me this is not really needed. Oops. We hike out close to the bridge and I get it... roughly where I want it, so I drop 6000 bells to Lloid and sigh. On we go, towards debt forever.
Oh cool, Blaire's up.

Isn't she adorable? Currently the sheer number of boxes have her depressed, but she'll be fine tomorrow.
To kill a bit more time, I sail out to the island to catch a few beetles for Teddy and profit. It is only then I discover that no, stag beetles don't show up until after like 6 PM. So instead I go on a Tour! Tours are minigames you can play on the island. In the one I pick, you run around a maze looking for fruit while ghosts-- wait, no ghosts, just maze and fruit. Right.

My goal was to find five oranges, which rapidly led me to discover every kind of fruit in the universe that wasn't an orange, and then to get extremely lost looking for the way back out. But I DID find my way eventually. Then I learned something about tours. You get to take anything you collect that isn't your goal and isn't explicitly disallowed home with you. For example, in other games (like the one where you break balloons with a slingshot), you can casually screw off to a corner of the island and raid it for fruits and flowers.
So now I have a bunch of durians and lychees and... stuff. Exotic fruits. Durians are like pineapples run through the TRON renderer and they smell like poo. Lychee are also known as soapberry. I am so excited to have these because now I can feed them to people I don't like.
Oh and I also earn some medals. I discover that medals can be used to buy stuff out in the tour lobby, like wetsuits you can wear around town, nautical themed decorations, or a membership to "Club Tortimer". Club Tortimer members can play multiplayer tours with random strangers on the internet, in case you were pissed off somehow that Animal Crossing is the one game on earth without a crappy competitive multiplayer mode stapled to it for absolutely no valid reason. (No membership required to play with friends or local multiplayer.)
Sigh. Well. Maybe it's not so bad? Someday I'll buy that membership maybe and you'll all hear how wrong I was. Not right now though! Right now, I want some SHOES. Also, I manage to persuade Pompom to eat a whole lemon right in front of me, which is AWESOME.
I stop in at the Able Sisters and poke around. Oh hey, a crown! Ha, that's pretty cute. How much is it?

...fffffff NO THAT'S OKAY JUST LOOKING. Then it's on to Kicks.

Kicks is British by the way.
Also when he talks his nose goes wooblewooble. This is adorable and I love Kicks. Kicks was a Dickensian street orphan-slash-shoeshine boy in previous games, and is now the owner of his own shoe shop. Here is official art of Kicks. Kicks is freaking precious and I want to hug his tail and pull his cap over his eyes. I buy some basic black loafers, for use in future cosplay, because somehow my life now revolves around cosplay, bugs, fish, and flowers.
Anyway! That'll do for now. Later I'll have to get Teddy his stag beetle. But that's much later.
SPECIAL PROTIP for everyone who's playing! If you have a fair bit of money, stick it in the ATM down at the post office tonight before midnight. Around 6 AM (official day start tomorrow) you'll earn 0.5% interest. Not much, but it helps. You earn this on the first of every month, and it adds up!
