My sleep schedule is drifting steadily off towards waking up in the late afternoon. *rub eyes* Well, these things happen, no? Let's check in on Adoravil (Town Motto: "Use Only As Directed") and we'll see how things are rolling there.
Okay, today Twilight Zone Isabelle informs me that "our old mayor" is visiting town and I should say hello. Mr. Tortimer suddenly appears in the spotlight. GAH. Is this how Sam felt whenever someone who wasn't Al got in the holoprojector? Tortimer informs me that he's enjoying his golden years on a tropical island far far away. "Summer is the norm and Winter is banished!"
Tortimer then cheerfully informs me that if I ever want to knock off work, the island is open for visiting. All I have to do is meet him down by the docks. Isabelle admits that she got the same invitiations... but she's much too busy to actually go. Suddenly it dawns on me that I've never actually done a DAY of my job as mayor. Erk. Sorry, Isabelle.
Oh and someone new is moving in and would enjoy the mayor meety-greety. Okay, here we go!
First off, my home was revamped overnight! I find a clothes closet at Re-Tail, fetch my stuff from train storage, and fiddle around a little. Maybe put the old wallpaper back up for a change of pace, spread out a little...

Okay, that's not too terrible. Now that I think of it.. I really want some NEW wallpaper. The pawprints were good for a while, but I've not seen anything that captivates me since. And some carpet would be nice too. A change! I like change. Oh right, also... let's go see if Phoebe is a duck or not.

Phoebe is NOT a duck. Phoebe is... I don't know what Phoebe is. A phoenix? She has flames on her outfit and a brightly colored tail and hot yellow/red plumage and she makes me feel decidedly happy that she's here. Welcome to Adoravil, Phoebe. I'm gonna have to introduce you to Bertha.

Here she is without the interface in the way. This is the first new villager I'm unabashedly delighted to meet!
Outside, Pompom is oddly twitchy for some reason. After watching her for a while, I can see why, and carefully pull out my net...

Uh-huh. Fleas. Shameful, Pompom, shameful.

I send the flea straight to the museum, as an ENDLESS REMINDER OF POMPOM'S SHAME. I then stop in at the Nookspawn Junction for the latest fortune...

Which is typically cryptic, but makes sense after I turn it in to the Timatom entity and get this:

Someday this is going to eat me in my sleep, isn't it.
Anyway, next up is ... actually seeing what my job entails. I head out to town hall to talk to Isabelle. The citizens feel the place is underdeveloped, and they desperately want a public works project in place. Well... you know what? Why not? I plop down in the big chair and review the list. Let's see... Getting around town IS kind of awkward. Let's put up a second bridge! Isabelle grabs a clipboard and follows me out on the town, and we stroll around the river until we find the perfect spot, right at the mouth of the river. On the way, I discover one of those pitfall traps.

Thanks for the help there, Isabelle. Anyway, she imagines it'll look like this when it's done:

And it's right next to Teddy's house, so that'll be cool too.

Naturally, I will have to throw all my cash at Lloid here to cover bridge costs. Sigh. Isabelle even comes out and says "We'll never gather enough money if you don't pitch in, Mayor!" I toss 500 bells in to sweeten the pot, leaving us only 127,500 short. Let's see... 127,500 + 98,000 for the house... 225,500 bells I eventually need to scrape up somewhere. *sigh*
What else... I stop by the Able Sisters, and something happens. Sable looks up from her sewing machine. Mabel is shocked, because this doesn't happen -ever-. Sable remembers my name as well. This could be the start, or maybe the middle of something, since I've been talking to her every single day.
Today's fossil donations: A dinosaur egg (our first non-multipart fossil!) a... I think I got this right, "dimendodron tail", and a ptera right wing.
Talking to Isabelle about "advice for living here" unlocks a whole bunch of new stuff that I KIND OF WISH I'D DONE PREVIOUSLY. If any of you have just started playing, talk to her a lot about this. Get her advice. It also unlocks some "awww" moments. When she asks if I'd been to the beach before, she starts cheerfully going on about how awesome it is. Then:

Sadly, this doesn't lead to a long walk on the beach. She just asks if I'll pick up a seashell for her. When I have time. Because it would mean a lot to her. ... Naturally I do this at once.

She hands me a basket of pears in return, with the advice her mother gave her: Share them because that's what good puppies do. ... I... I want to be a good puppy too! So I go plant those pears. Soon, they will grow into big and strong pear trees, and everyone can have as many as they want!
Finishing up that line of conversation leads to her giving me a watering can, so I can finally do some proper gardening around town. Her final advice: Just enjoy living. Do what you like, live as you like, and have fun with your life. It's yours to enjoy.
Animal Crossing gives me Feelings, y'all. It really does. *dab eyes* Ahem.
Anyway. I water the flowers and the newly planted trees, and then decide that, y'know... I'll worry about that massive debt, and going to the tropical island, and all that stuff...
...sometime later.
