The Third Stage.
Oct. 30th, 2004 09:20 amFirst there was awe, then there was wonder...
...now there's Livejournal.
Go here. Look at it. If you don't care about games, you can skip the rest. Whatever.
This is called Okami. This is the single best arguement I've EVER seen for the existance of the entire "cel shading" fad. Those are in-game graphics. You can see them in motion actually, if you like. You REALLY should. There are movies on Gametrailers.com but don't go there unless you're on Firefox or something non-popuppy.
The rest of you can get the movies here: Movie 1 and Movie 2.
Details on the plot seem kinda sparse. Obviously you play as a wolf, whose name is Amaterasu. From what I'm gathering, she may not just be -a- wolf, but -The- Wolf, a deity figure in her own right. Her strength comes from gathering the belief of the people, which she can use to restore color and life to a dead land.
If this game doesn't get a US release, I will first stab someone with a fork and then I will bite the bullet for a modded PS2, because HOLY CRAP, DUDE. This, as far as I'm concerned, is what games are FOR. It looks beautiful, creative, and like... something from another world. (A very Japanese world. Painting-styled graphics. Mmm.) I'll go ahead and say it: This is the look I feel certain styles of gaming should be moving towards in general. NOT this look EXACTLY. But AWAY from the damned realism fetish and towards more unique styles of art.

Date: 2004-10-30 04:07 pm (UTC)If I recall, Amaterasu was born from another god's left nostril or something. It's been too long since I read the Grasscutter arc of Usagi Yojimbo.
