Chantelise was FUN, I admit, but at points it kinda got like... Adora-Demon's Souls? It got SUPER hard, in a rapid-fire "you're gonna die" way. Anyway, I got a request to write up the plot when I was finished, so... I'm gonna drop the mad spoilers behind the cut, okay? Be warned: THIS SPOILS EVERYTHING ABOUT CHANTELISE EXCEPT ACTUALLY PLAYING IT YOURSELF. Also I may get some minor details wrong, because I'm kinda ditzy and drowsy right now.

Once upon a time, two sisters went walking under the light of a red moon. Pulled on by forces they couldn't understand, they found themselves looking at another young woman standing in the moonlight. The legend was that a witch would curse girls who went under the red moon, and sure enough, when they awoke they found that the older sister had been turned into a fairy.

The older sister was pissed off and wanted to beat somebody senseless for this, and the younger sister took up a sword and went with her, because what else are you gonna do?

Traveling, they found a small town with an item shop run by a very nice and money-gouging young lady, and a fortune teller with mysterious purple hair. The town was surrounded by ruins, and in each of the ruins was a giant monster, and that giant monster got smacked down with a sword posthaste. In one of the ruins, however, was a mural of some interest. The mural, faded and gritty with time and erosion, showed a young woman with a sword and a glowing light fighting a monster. The younger sister, tired from her fighting, could barely consider this image before she fell and passed out.

It turns out that fairy dust is toxic. Not fairy dust from a close relative, but the fairy dust of another would cause sickness, memory loss, and eventually death. Fairy dust being concentrated magic, this was what let the swordswoman hurt monsters so much more powerful than her: Her weapons and armor were coated in the stuff. Where did this unknown fairy dust come from? The older sister didn't care. She went off in search of the purifying Blue Rose, and the fortune teller joined her.

The fortune teller joined her by revealing she'd been studying the younger sister VERY closely and then transformed into a perfect double of her. THAT'S NOT CREEPY OR ANYTHING, thought the older sister.

Anyway they got the rose and cured little sister. And then fishing happened. Fishing happened FOREVER.

... Where was I.

Okay, right. Four ruins, elemental themed... okay.

As it would turn out, the fortune teller and shopkeeper were in cahoots. Years before, a demon had attempted to enter the land. A girl and a fairy had sealed him off, and to ensue there would always be someone who could keep the seal from breaking, they used magic to make sure there would always BE a fairy and a young swordswoman to fight the demon and renew the seal. It would always magically transform two sisters with a powerful love for each other. The fortune teller was the last generation's fairy, and the shopkeeper had drugged her with an amnesia potion of fairy dust to keep her from sacrificing herself holding the seal in place, and as Elise and Chante watched, the red moon rose and two more girls were selected and transformed.

Of course, this story didn't stop the two sisters. If anything, they got MORE determined to work out a way to end things. So they went off to fight the archdemon.

In the meantime, the fortune teller found a cleaner version of the mural, unfaded. It showed a girl fighting the demon... and -three- lights helping her.

So! Elise squared off against the demon, and that fight was ABSOLUTELY CRAZY, and only the fact that she found a magical life-draining gem in a hidden chest kept her alive, and seriously there were fricking LASER BEAMS and fire and huge rows of bombs and bullet-hell spam and two giant glowing fists that shot lightning and fire and HOLY CRAP it was a HELL of a fight. But the shopkeeper and her fairy/sister/fortune teller showed up to help, and the four of them together didn't just -seal- the demon, they blew him up. The battle turned into some kind of bullet-hell thing in outer space and the faeries charged Elise's sword with dust and she THREW IT STRAIGHT THROUGH HIM and then the demon exploded. No more demon, yay!

And so they all lived happily ever after, and Chante and Elma slowly became not-faeries, but they did stay mages and study intense magical theory. And Elise and Aira ran an item shop and cooked weird food together, and the four of them were as happy as two sisters who are mages and two more sisters who are good-hearted badasses can be.

Until a girl and a fairy came into town, asking about "the witch's curse". Oops, right, remember that plot hook? ... Well, at least this pair won't have to beat up any demons to get cured!

THE END.

(No moral.)

...Okay, that may have come out kind of muddled, but you guys get the gist, right? Anyway. Clearly I enjoyed the heck outta this even though it KEPT KICKING MY ASS. Wow this game was hard. Only the "Darkness Crystal", that 'life-draining gem' I mentioned, kept me from dying five hundred times in the last dungeon. With a charged strike you drain however-many hit points you hit for from the bad guy. There's something particularly strut-worthy about keeping yourself alive through a hard boss fight by using THE FORCES OF DARKNESS to suck the life energy out of an ARCHDEMON. Elise wins via the DARK SIDE. Awyeah.

So what's next? Well... still no AC3, and I don't REALLY feel like doing the bonus dungeons in Chantelise. So I'm probably just going to derp around with MMOs and scout a few levels into random games and such until AC3 shows up.

See you next time!

Bleh...and I still can't manage the first boss. Shopkeepers--you know, you'd think they'd give the person trying to save the world a discount once in a while. Especially in this case, since it's at least partly *her fault* that you're stuck doing this/ Unless she's trying to discourage you from fighting at all, and just gets off on watching pair after pair of girls have one turned into a fairy...
