Yet another MMO beta, yet another squee.
Apr. 27th, 2012 04:01 amSo in about ELEVEN HOURS from this post, the Guild Wars 2 beta weekend starts up and I am -super hype-. I am a level beyond hype.
I recognize that not everyone shares my hype. So I must ask: Should I make a special effort to document this? Should I post about it here at all? Or does no one much give a damn?
OKAY it looks like I am TOTALLY going to be at least writing some of my thoughts up on what this game is like. Thank you for the outpouring of support.
I should totally be asleep. I actually can't sleep. This doesn't usually happen. *fret fret*
I intend to try to get in a little of everything, but is there anything people particularly want to see? There's three races available...
(The HUMANS, who are a strange and kind of goofy looking beast, the NORN, who are extremely large humans with a shapeshifting thing and a spiritual culture, and the CHARR, who are enormous liondog people with horns and a Klingon-style culture.)
...and eight professions:
WARRIOR: With the mystical ability to hit things, and then hit things again.
RANGER: With the ability to take a pet into battle and have it eat thy enemies.
ELEMENTALIST: With the ability to have a really fucking complicated hotbar. Four elements, five skills per element, hotswitching all the time. Oh, they're mages.
GUARDIAN: With the ability to be a paladin. Shield, holy powers, big hammer.
NECROMANCER: With the ability to romance necs.
MESMER: With the ability to be -absolutely infuriating-. Phantom clone army, go!
THIEF: With... uh... they steal things okay. Also they're dodgy little bastards.
ENGINEER: They solve problems with guns.
OF THESE I have three characters sort of loosely half-planned in my mind.
I think given that most people play things they can relate to, the human starting area will be PACKED. Unfortunately the strongest character idea I have right now is for a human engineer. I like the idea of the engineer, I like their style.
Okay. Engineers use: Rifles, two pistols, or one pistol and a shield. That's limited, right? Nope. Engineers can use their skills to, say, make a flamethower. Or jet boots. Or slick shoes, like Data from the Goonies. Or just carry around a box of hand grenades. I like this idea.
So that's one thing. But I'm also curious about melee combat, something you don't really DO with a rifle. So I'm thinking of a Norn Warrior, because raar grr wall of beef with an axe. Hey look it's Skyrim.
The Charr, meanwhile... they're a very martial focused race, but I'm also wanting to try something unconventional. That's why I'm thinking Charr Necromancer. That combines two of the things I'm least likely to want to play, a rr grr proud noble warlike culture guy with a class that is basically all about exploiting the dead for slave labor and also making them explode on people.
Obviously this is all subject to change. I know someone who'd probably want to see some rangery stuff. I could maybe do that. But... in three days? Maybe a little less than three days? This is enough.
That said, this is a -beautiful- game and I will try to take some nice screenshots for people. There will be more about this in future as I actually -play the game- oh my god I haven't touched it and I'm BABBLING what the heck sqrl.
