Horror-esqe Dreams
Apr. 29th, 2011 02:43 pmSo this was a weird night for dreaming, because I invented myself up prose apparently.
Dreamt that I was reading one of
orrin's stories, except that I've only read maybe one of Orrin's stories. (Sorry, Orrin.) He's a monster-fiction writer, and this one introduced a weird sort of new monster, the "centaur". Except they were not horse-people centaurs. They were called that because of their body shape, which put the legs sort of 'down here' and the head and glowing eyes at a different, 'unexpectedly angular-from-there' location.
The story revolved around how these odd, glowing-eyed creatures would appear in the background of photographs and, slowly, over the course of several years, shift position in said photograph to creep towards the foreground. There was a researcher who was noting with distinct concern that this steady approach was happening faster and faster over the course of time, and that the owners of said photographs would see these shadowy things in unrelated movies closer and closer to the present day, or... something. Like all dreams it was a pretty muddled story.
Anyway, in the dream I was writing Orrin a gag follow-up letter ("Dear Orrin: I found the approach of the creatures unrealistically fast but did find the effect of their eyes hypnotic and wonder why you chose to include so many in the illustrations...") but as I was doing this, an actual firetruck with actual sirens blaring blew past our apartment. So I suspect that Dream Orrin got an email with the text "Dear Orrin: AAAAAAAasdffkgehgierohgefndkafdp!"
I hope this made him happy.

Date: 2011-05-06 01:08 pm (UTC)Yes, this made me super-happy! As I mentioned elsewhere, I like the idea of fictional stories by me appearing in peoples' dreams. It satisfies my obsession with fictional meta-narratives and imaginary books and movies and things.
Man, I totally kind of want to write this story now, although, as someone pointed out, Gemma kind of beat me to the punch a little with "each thing i show you is a piece of my death." Still, though, I'm sure mine would be pretty different...

Date: 2011-05-06 02:09 pm (UTC)...well okay there's a LOT of similarities. And I think my brain pulled up some of that "slenderman" business that's going around too, I'd heard of it tangentally and looked it up after someone mentioned it re: the dream.
Still. It could be interesting.
