Service with a Sqrl
Feb. 22nd, 2011 09:45 pmIt's been some time since I posted anything about Rift, and there is a reason for that! I have been trying not to get TOO HYPE about it, to the point where my bladder explodes or something. But now Rift's Head Start for preorders is rapidly approaching, and I find that people are looking at me going "SERVER?" and I'm like "...uh 127.0.0.1?" and that is NOT GOOD ENOUGH.
So I need to work out what server the woof and I will be playing on, so other people can join it and I can twitchily semi-ignore them. I am bad with people, guys, I keep telling you this.
So let's see. Let's pull that server list up and do some LOGIC to it.
If we take the official server list and trim out all the RP and PVP and PVRP and PPRRRRPPP servers, we get:
Belmont PvE
Byriel PvE
Gnarlwood PvE
Greybriar PvE
Keenblade PvE
Shatterbone PvE
Wolfsbane PvE
I am cutting the RP servers because I don't actually know how to roleplay a character who is made up of multiple different souls all sharing one body and trying to kill people with magical swords. SO. Of that selection, let's ANALYZE.
Belmont - There are no whips in this game. Sadly, I don't want to be a Belmont without a whip. OUT.
Byriel - This is the only other server that's not a compound word. That makes it tempting. MAYBE.
Gnarlwood - This reminds me of one of those old wicker chairs my grandparents had, which reminds me of The Wicker Man starring Nicholas Cage, and that's not an association I want in my gaming life. OUT.
Greybriar - This one's possible because I have just started playing Jane Jensen's excellent new point and click adventure game Gray Matter. But they spelled gray wrong. OUT.
Keenblade - Could you BE any more generic? Then again, that likely means a low population server. MAYBE.
Shatterbone - Too violent. I dislike trying to tell someone about my server and it's like YEAH I ROLLED ON GOREFUCKER. This one's OUT.
Wolfsbane - I like my wolf. I do not want to bane him.
So we're down to Byriel or Keenblade. We gotta get creative here. Googling Byriel and flipping through the results nets me a link to a construction company in Iowa. Googling Keenblade nets me a load of references to LOTRO, WoW, and Dungeons and Dragons. Obviously that is a FINE PEDIGREE for any MMORPG server to be associated with.
WINNER: KEENBLADE.
So the woof and I will be on the Keenblade server when Rift time rolls around. Tell your friends! They won't care!
