Well. I'm happy, genuinely cheerful, seem to have found some energy to invest in things, have managed to leave the apartment recently, and my mood hasn't been swinging or plunging lately. Much less depressed than usual.

So why do I have the suspicion that something horrible will happen soon? (Hopefully NOT pattern recognition.)

Anyway. There's been a fair amount of Dragon Quest 9 (which is wonderful) and Champions Online (which is... tolerable. Interesting.) and a fair bit of reading. Not so much watching stuff, although that is a feature that will return, because I am eager to get through some other shows and into Digimon for dinosaur/dragon fanservice.

It does not matter if there is actually none in the show. I will INVENT some and sail that ship off over the horizon.

In other news I've recontacted a few old friends recently thanks to various means. BBS subculture has ripples extending out even to 2010. Who knew? So much of my life has been spent in conversations with a monitor. Almost all of it has been worth it.

Hopefully a more substantial post later. This is more "Hello! I am still here. Goodbye!"

(R:) Shit, I know that's at least part of my problem... Usually I try to keep somehow reminding myself that my pattern-recognition circuits are faulty and/or do not necessarily predict the future with perfect accuracy. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. ^^

(D:) I've actually wanted to get into some Digimon myself at some point, if only because it seems kind of like Pokemon, only...more kickass? More teeth? More 733+ visuals? Well, that and I'd like to finally understand why 3/4 of the furry fandom wants to have nasty hot sex with Renamon, out of all the female cartoon animal people they could have picked, and the other 1/4 thinks that she's too sacred to ever dream of banging. I WANT TO KNOW THE TRUTH. ;_; But I am cool with getting the truth indirectly through your anime reviews, since obviously we're not getting around to watching it ourselves. :B

I think the Renamon thing is your Basic Foxual Fixation. It's a syndrome that affects all foxes and fox-shaped objects that come within the Furrosphere, which is a unit of measurement and proximal classification which I just totally made up right now.

...I genuinely can't claim it BOTHERS me, mind. And I raised a Renamon in Digimon World Dusk straight through her "plush vixen" form to her "kitsune" form to her "taoist magician and group nuker" form, and I squee'd happily at each.

So I think protesting any of it would be dearly hypocritical of me for various reasons.

Well, the flip side of this is that in general there's really not much to work with vulpine-wise in anything resembling 'mainstream-access animation' (for lack of a better term..the stuff you can find on regular cable or general animation/anime sections, as opposed to the lesser-known stuff that you actually have to go *looking* for) work. There's only a few vulpine characters who aren't either non-anthro (like Vulpix, the Fox and the Hound characters, and the like) or smarmy/jerkass/exist-only-to-be-an antagonist (villains from Redwall and the like--there's a few vixens, but they tend to be genderswapped clones of their brother/husband/whatever in the setting) types. And out of those, the only *vixens* I can think of off of the top of my head are Renamon, Maid Marian, and the one announcer from Yu Yu Hakusho (who's only marginal on the mainstream thing, due to having been on Cartoon Network). Most of the fandom vixens are either pulled from nearly unknown anime/animation, or are fandom-artist works.

I remember you talking about how you liked the politicaly stuff in the Star Wars prequels and cartoons and stuff, when normally people don't, and I was reading a book and I thought, "I wonder if Gordy would like these books?"

It's the Lord of the Isles series by David Drake, do you know it? It has lots of political intrigue and stuff. In the latest book I'm reading, they're having a major meeting and discussing the terms of this one island staying in the kingdom and not getting killed, and then everybody freaks out because there's this big demon in the sky, but it turns out it's just a cloud and they go back into the tent to discuss things more.

Does that sound like something that would appeal to you? There's action and adventure and fantasy and wonder and joy and zombies and shepherds. I think you would like it. Also lots of architecture. I think David Drake is an architecturephile.
