Kamen Rider Ryuki:

9/10ths of this was freaking AWESOME. Another complex plot, strongly written characters. Good action, plenty of fighting, a complex moral issue.

The ending, uh... well.... uhm. Erm. ...geez. It could have been worse! ...yeah. Uh.

Still need to watch the movie and special, but I'm calling this one done for now.

Secret Life of Machines:

This meanwhile we've been watching for ages. A comfortable show about how stuff works, why stuff works, what it took to get them there (goodness, a lot of inventors died before their stuff caught on) and of course lots of taking stuff apart to look at it while it runs.

Very calm, very british, very good.

So! What will we watch next? We have THREE SLOTS to fill. I'd like advice and pushing towards whatever you folk have seen that's good, from this list:

Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha
Mobile Police Patlabor
Being Human (Watched 1 ep)
Last Exile
Brave of the Sun Fighbird
Avatar: Last Airbender
Digimon (5 Seasons)
Overman King Gainer (Watched 2 eps)
Yu-gi-Oh Abridged
Kamen Rider Faiz
Kamen Rider Blade
Kamen Rider Hibiki
Combattler V (Watched 1 ep)
Voltes V (Watched 2 eps)
Big O
Aura Battler Dunbine
Wolverine and the X-Men

What should we watch/finish watching/actually start watching next?

Pick 3.

Hmm. Tough call, but off the top of my head..

1: Being Human. We watched the first ep, and agreed it had all the makings of a good show, and then.. forgot to Tune In Next Week. I don't know if I can handle another Kamen Rider right away, so maybe a different brand of Magical Realism here?

2: Patlabor. After conversations with mecha fans who grew up drooling over mecha from other continuities, shows, etc (some of you may remember my initial concept of 'giant robot' came from exposure to Battletech.. anime came later, for me.) I've grown interested in, you know, what ELSE do people use mecha for? They aren't _ALL_ made to be military death machines, and a look at a world enhanced by mecha interests me.

3: YGO Abridged. The sqrl's been poking me about this being much more engaging than a quick glance seems to indicate, and.. after that bombshell of an ending to Ryuki, maybe I need something .. not just less SRS BSNS, but deliberately light-hearted and not-serious.

1. Yu-gi-Oh Abridged: Like any abridged series, it helps if you've watched at least some of the original anime, but it's not absolutely neccesary. I'm pretty sure it was the first Abridged Anime series, which is why it starts off sort of weak. The voices and humor get much better after the first dozen or so episodes. Mostly though it's just very funny, and I enjoy every new episode. <3

2. Digimon Season 1: Take it one step at a time, all of Digimon is pretty long. Start with the start and see if you really like it! I liked Digimon a lot, though, and especially the first season. It really feels like a sort of adventure in a fantastic place.

3. Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha: I haven't seen it but I've heard so many good things about it, that I really want to. Where did you even find it? I can't find it anywhere, only the later seasons after the first, and I like to start with the start when I watch anime.

Oh sorry hon, LJ is still broken so I don't get reply notices anymore. I just found this now, and I won't be on IMs for a while. I'll try to IM you when I can remember.

1. Nanoha, for obvious reasons. IMHO the second season, A's, is the best overall, but the first and third are awesome too.

2. Avatar. Just because it's Avatar.

3. Patlabor. It's a classic for a reason!

1) Avatar.

Don't really have concrete suggestions for the others, but:

- Wolverine & The X-Men is actually pretty short--as in it's not hard to digest. You could marathon it in a couple days, easy.

- If not for Fate, Nanoha Season 1 would be the most boringly generic magical girl anime ever. Hell, it may actually be that even with Fate.

- I wouldn't mind one being another Kamen Rider so we can continue our grand plan. :) Though after the SRS BSNS of Ryuki, I wouldn't fault you one bit if you wanted to, say, take a temporary warp zone to Den-O... :D

The only series on the list that we've seen all the way through is Last Exile, and it turned out to be painfully overrated in the end. Nice worldbuilding, nice execution, interesting stuff going on...and then a few eps before the end it was like everyone forgot what the hell they were doing, threw a generic plot together just to get it over with, and sort of blew all the good stuff that had come before.

If a WTF ending doesn't especially bother you, then it does have some pretty cool ideas and shiny 3D bling all throughout. ^_^;

Oh my god, Secret Life of Machines is so awesome. Tim Hunkin is a total mensch. I've watched every episode of that series at least thrice. It's like science with a valium swirl.
I vote for Patlabor or Big O next. I loved the second Patlabor movie, and Big O looked pretty interesting too -- seemed to have more going on conceptually than most Big Mecha anime.

Hmm. I forget--which Kamen Rider is the Mega Crossover one? (and for that matter, which one is it that has the Riders using *musical instruments* to attack a Giant Crab for Massive Damage?)

And I'd suggest All Cultural Catgirl Nuku-Nuku or Koko no Greenwood, but I'm silly that way. ;-)
