xyzzysqrl: (Play with me.)

Now that I've deleted Left 4 Dead, I have some time I've been using to play other games.

Virtual On: Octagonal Tambourine. Because giant robots are wonderful. (Not my screenshot. The next two are.)

Outrun 2006 Coast 2 Coast. Because driving really fast in gorgeous places and then going sideways really hard is also wonderful.

Everquest 2. Because running around a luscious fantasy world as a heavily-pierced anthro housecat in plate mail who fights with a wine bottle as a club and a ship's wheel as a shield is also also wonderful. (My secondary character. The main is a small frog who is also a bard. Also, I know, I'm in a cave, it's brown. Whole thing doesn't look that way, I swear.)

What have you folk been doing lately?

I used to play UO. I wanted it for like a year before it came out, but didn't get it for two years after it came out. I played for years but never got a maxed out character, mostly I roleplayed. I finally quit when they added a dimension that is a floating continent in space, with lots of housing space, paladins, and necromancers. Because of the additional space and the help of a friend, I was finally able to buy a house, 'winning' the 'game'.

Never made it very far into a dungeon either. The most fun I had was interacting with the 'Sages', a mix of paid employees and in-game voulenteers who played the roles of major NPCs and monsters. It was really weird though, seeing a 'monster' lich plotting with Magic Emperor Ghaleon (a player) in the Yew Crypt. At the time I wasn't familiar with the Lunar games though so I didn't realize. I wonder if the Seer did?

Eventually a few of the voulenteers revolted, and the volunteer programs were shut down along with the Seers. There's a Memorial to them in Britan on every server. Um, I think it's only on the Felucca side though.

The game is completely different now than it was. For the first five or six years they didn't have a quest mechanic. I'm not sure if they've added a group mechanic or not; back in the day you just dragged someone's health bar onto your GUI if you wanted to keep an eye on them, there were no hard-coded groups besides Guilds. Guilds needed a house with a Guild Stone, too.

It was all pretty crazy. I understand it's a real game, now. ^.^

I've been meaning to pick up Outrun but I haven't played more than the demo so far. I've been in a bit of a games slump lately; other stuff has eaten into the time I'd like to throw at them. I'm looking forward to a bunch of stuff this week, though, Klonoa being at the head of the pack. Yay! And then, of course, my own games... which desperately need to get more work, soon...

I dunno if you know this, or have already done this, but if you bought L4D on Steam, Steam has a way to gift games you own to other people. They came up with it when they decided to put out The Orange Box but realized at least half the purchasers would have alot of the content already.

So, since you didn't like L4D, you could pass it on to someone else to play.

Also, that robots game you're playing? I think it's called Virtual On: Office Trystmobile? That thing looks fun. Any way you could be prodded into posting more about it?

Also, to answer your question, I've been listening to Louis Prima alot lately, I played a bunch of City of Heroes over the weekend, and I saw Wolverine on Sunday.

Dammit Kris! Stop posting!

Playing GuildWars a bit, but other than that, not much else beyond giving TeamFortress2 a try.

Unfortunately, I figured out why I didn't pick up Outrun... it just exceeds my graphic card's stats because this compy I've got only has a PCI slot, so I'm pretty low-end on the graphics scale.

Note of caution: Outrun 2006 from the original Xbox runs playably on a 360, but it...ain't quite right. Texture dropouts, missing incidental graphics, sound glitches, etc. This is a certainly a great leap forward from the PS2 version not even starting on a PS3, but it still feels pretty half-assed.

Pretty irksome, really. I love Outrun Online dearly, but I really wish it included the 2006 goodies so I didn't have to fall back to PC or the previous console generation for 'em.

'fraid not... I did have an old Xbox at one point, but for the life of me, I just couldn't find a good reason to keep it. I didn't seem to really fit the target demographic for their title selection, so I sold it and picked up a Gamecube instead, and I was much happier with what I could get.

A PS2 is the 'newest' console I play on... can't really afford to buy into the current console wars, so I mostly play a lot of slightly older games. Having read Glashund's comment, though... I didn't know it was available on the PS2. I'll have to see if I can track it down!

And, I agree, post-searing was awfully depressing when I first encountered it... it has gotten better, though once I gave it enough effort to play further. The progress is rather slow since I'm playing through everything solo... but I much prefer NPCs that I can contain in one area instead of other actual players who I can't. Plus, since I don't have to pay per month, it works the best for me and my short attention span, and I can walk away for several weeks in-between playing it and not lose a single thing.

Haven't picked up either expansion yet, so I can't really tell you much there.

Oh, I didn't know you played TF2, Mocha! What's your Steam name? Which servers do you play on? I'd love to shoot at you for fun. <3

I'm ReleeSquirrel and I mostly play on the Furry Pound servers.

Thing is... I didn't really find getting shot at (a lot) very fun, so I highly doubt its something I'm gonna really get into.

Kinda the same thing as Doom, for me. I tried playing that at one of the virtual gaming centers they had out here back in the 90's where you'd pay for an hour of network time to play with other people there... I didn't know what I was doing, and got killed roughly every 15 seconds.

Not... at... ALL... fun.

My reflexes and instincts are a bit too slow for group-multi-player shooters.

But, then, why did you get it? Peer pressure?

It takes a lot of practice and you'll die a lot even if you're doing well. Valve did a lot of work trying to lessen the impact of loss and sometimes the game tries to cheer you up. It tracks things like how long you've stayed alive and it'll tell you 'hey you almost beat your record for time alive as a soldier!' or 'You got more kills that round than ever!' or 'You helped other people kill this many people!'

It's also important to play on a server where people aren't too good. There are 'pro' servers where people will get mad at you for not being awesome, forget competent. But there are also servers where you can run around like a goofball and people will be okay with that.

The Furry Pound servers are pretty good. It's rare to hear someone complain about someone else's shooting, and then they usually get yelled at for being mean. It's a good place to learn the ropes. ^.^

And yeah, it's a First Person Shooter so it's basically the same as Doom gameplay-wise, but it's a team based game so there's always a bunch of people backing you up. Or, trying to anyways.

But if you don't like FPS games at all then you're just not going to enjoy yourself. I don't know why you would buy an FPS game if you don't like them. ^.^;;

Um, no... it was bought for me as a gift.

I will play it... for a while it did seem like a lot of fun... there's just no way to practice on my own, and I really like being able to learn things at my own pace.

Its just how I am.

Ahh yeah, that's one of the downsides. You can't just play by yourself. There's no option for AI players. You could try with just one or four friends though? Learn the maps, fiddle with the weapons... If you do a non-aggression sort of match you can have both teams goofing around together. At least untill some guy shows up and starts setting everyone on fire. ^.^;;

That's pretty much what happened... I was having fun up until a group of really aggressive people joined, and then it was barbecue city.

Yeah, sometimes it's good and sometimes it's not. It depends on the other players.

I actually stopped playing TF2 a long time ago, when I first got it. Back then I played on the CC2iscool furry servers. But, people repeatedly singled me out and said that I was the reason our team was loosing, and were generally excessively cruel. It's supposed to be against the server rules, but nobody was stopping them.

I eventually started playing again, I forget why, and I joined the Furry Pound servers. They were a lot nicer. When someone is playing too hardcore on the Furry Pound, they tell them to go to CC2iscool. XD

City of Heroes with friends. The mission creator is all kinds of awesome. The fallout in the form of custom-built power-level farms is not so awesome. v.v

Free Realms ALONE, SO ALONE, because it's one of the games like WoW or EQ2 or WAR that doesn't work well with groups. At least it doesn't try to force you to group. Mostly, I've been playing the card game in it. Or mining. Mining is fun. Blacksmithing is locked to subscribers of course. 9.9

Puzzle Quest: Galactrix, on the toilet.
