So I appear to have fallen into Digimon fandom by accident. I started playing one of the games and then started talking with some people about the games and all and now I'm all excited about what virtual monsters I can raise and considering trying to figure out which of the anime seasons holds interest for me and HOW DID THIS HAPPEN.

Oh well. I blame the one that looks like a dragon cosplaying Zengar Zombolt. Or possibly the one that looks like a wolf wearing a jetpack and goggles, because he is kinda hot.

Also, I had a birthday! It was nice. I slept through it. That was the nice part.

*giggles* That's finally fine. One tip I've learned from watching Digimon! The more belts they have, the stronger they are. If you see a Digimon made entirely of belts, you should run. Or make friends. <3

You were considering watchin the anime, so I'll tell you what I can about that, and try to keep it low on spoilers. From what I've seen, there are five digimon 'continuities' in the Anime. The first two seasons are connected, and then each season after that is a completely independant world and story with different physics and everything. I'm not sure if the games are based on any of the shows, so those might be additional continuities. So, it's sorta like comic books; Infinite Supermans.

The first one has a group of kids at summer camp who are suddenly swept into the Digital World by a mysterious anomaly. When you go to the Digital World, you're instantly assigned a digimon partner, who is a loyal and caring friend with either the same or opposite personality as you, depending on which would harmonize best with you. They have the ability to gather food for you and fight off scary monsters that want to eat you.

The first couple plot arcs mostly cover those summer camp kids trying to figure out what the hell happened and how to get home, as well as surviving in a strange world full of monsters and arbitrary places with no purpose. Eventually it evolves into saving the world as these things always do.

The second season takes place two years later. The littlest kids from the first season join with three new kids and find themselves transported to the digital world, but the rules and physics are slightly different. For one thing, their 'digivices' change, small computer tools that allows their digimon to increase in size, power, and badassitude. Also, whenever they go to the digital world (which they can do intentionally at this point) their clothes change into a fashionable designer outfit. The older kids can still go to the digital world and help out, but they don't get fashionable clothes. The first few plot arcs deal with a strange kid calling himself emperor and enslaving digimon with his dark powers, and trying to figure out what's the deal with that. Eventually it evolves into saving the world as these things always do.

The third season gets rid of everybody and changes everything, and the bulk of it takes place on Earth. Digimon is a trading card game, OR IS IT? It is, but then some Digimon start showing up in flesh and blood, and kids start getting digivices. There's a secret shady organization that does things, and the kids have to fight the entire chinese zodiac, including the heavenly generals and the Sì Xiàng. Eventually it evolves into saving the world as these things always do.

Shoot, just a bit over the text buffer. I'll have to cut this in two. Sorry!

The fourth season is a whole new world again. This time a bunch of kids are led into a mysterious train station by an enigmatic cell phone signal. The kids don't have digimon partners in this one, instead they uncover the sealed souls of ancient legendary warrior digimon and transform into them. So, the kids become digimon themselves. As a result, the digimon in this season are a lot more anthropomorphic. Not many people like this season because the charm of having an instant BFF with magic powers was the main draw to Digimon. I kind of liked it, since I'm a transformation nut. Eventually it evolves into saving the world as these things always do.

There weren't any more Digimon shows for a while, but then they made the latest one, Digimon Data Squad. This one changes a lot of things. The kids are still only 14 but they look and act like 18 year olds. The lead male is a legendary street fighter who regularly beats the crap out of whole gangs of older kids, and in order to make his digimon digivolve he has to punch the monster of the day in the face, unleashing his BURNING PASSION and giving it to his partner. This is difficult sometimes since a lot of digimon are thirty feet tall. Anyways he joins the Digimon Men in Black, except instead of black they were brightly coloured spandex. And they have Neuralizers. They're investigating the cause of the Digimon phenomenon and trying to protect people from wild Digimon that teleport to earth. Eventually it evolves into saving the world as these things always do.

And that's basically it! They're all pretty good. The first season is the longest, I think it technically took longer than just one 'season', though. It has a lot of plot arcs. The first is also my favorite, because I love the idea of having an instant BFF with magic powers, and arbitrary places with no purpose. There's a factory for the sake of having a factory, and all it does is assemble and dissassemble the same thing over and over. It's real purpose is to give factory dwelling digimon a place to live.

Ironically? It's more a homage than a connection of the two canons? But the Digimon Men In Bright Spandex in Savers/Data Squad (Season five, whatev) is actually the exact same group as the secret shady organization in Tamers (season three).

I haven't actually seen all of the episodes of the various series after the first two. I saw most of Digimon Tamers, but only bits of Digimon Frontier and I watched a fansub of Digimon DATS, only far enough to their first digidive when they were going to get their souls reaped by mecha-death. Then they brought it over as Digimon Data Squad, and I've only seen a few of the produbbed eps.

That's the thing though. In Tamers? The Secret Shady organization was CALLED DATS.

I am apparently a Digimon, at least according to Swordian. Last I checked I was what you probably meant by the Zengar Zombolt cosplayer.

Yeah, the Digital World (and by proxy most of the important parts of the Digiverse) are pretty nice.

The real human world, however, is pretty damn Crapsack World... and THEN evil digmans try to fuck with it.

So yeah.
