Okay. Here's a weird one.

When I was younger, I had a big book of adventure game walkthroughs I used to actually read for pleasure, because I was a maladjusted little tyke. These were written by "The Condor" or "The California Condor" as far as I can remember, but I've a nagging suspicion it was published under a "Something Magazine" banner. All written in-character, he'd occasionally take a paragraph or two to wax nostalgic about thrusting his beak into a pile of carcasses during a horror game walkthrough, or how he survived extinction by simply never going outside, or the like. They were... as far as I can remember, fairly hilarious, and were a big inspiration for my writing-about-games style.

I'm about 90% certain it included a Phantom of the Opera game (the author made a big thing about how the Phantom didn't look so bad under the mask compared to him), the game Mindshadow (which is where the author's persona was from, Mindshadow had you typing HELP CONDOR for hints), and possibly the Kyrandia games.

For YEARS I've been curious about:

What the heck I was reading back then?
Where can I get it back?
Did he do anything else? I got the impression that he was used to writing this persona for a magazine article series or somesuch.
Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

It wasn't Rick Barba, was it? This guy? I can't find a picture of the book cover, sadly. This guy has done a butt-ton of game walkthroughs since then, though!
