WorthPlaying is recruiting. So I sent them this email.

Hello. My name is Gordy Wheeler, and I'd like to
review games for WorthPlaying.com. My prior piece of
experience in game review, a review of the PC
adventure game Riven done for About.com's now-defunct
Adventure Gaming site, is sadly offline. As such I
can't point to any handy samples to say "Look, I wrote
this."

I do, however, own a PS2, a reasonably decent gaming
PC, a Gamecube, and a GBA. I'm also in possession of a
TV card for screen captures, and have been playing
games for a large portion of my life. I therefore have
the occasional ring of credibility. In addition, I
managed through two years of an English major before
outside circumstances forced me to leave college.

Is there a place on your writing staff for me?

So I'm wondering if this is too standoffish, or... I dunno. I'm hoping it doesn't come off as too brash, but the alternative is getting down and begging.

Mostly I just want to write game reviews. Not for pay, but because I -could-, because it combines my two favorite pastimes. (Video gaming and ranting energeticly about video games. Yeah.)

In further news, it is exceptionally goddamn cold. There was more I wanted to talk about, but I can't remember right now. I'll post again later if it comes to mind.

You could tidy up your little review of that monster game and send that to them as a sample.

Similarly, tidy up the book review. If you can review books, you can review games. Right? ...right?

Or you could write a new review of a game you're playing.

I'm with the last answer; you should *absolutely* write up a sample review of a new game and send it to them as an example of your style and what you can do. I'm surprised they haven't asked you for this anyway, and would fully expect them to when they drop a line back to you.
