Observations on Nightmares
Dec. 17th, 2007 04:38 amWhen I was young, nightmares were pretty simple. They revolved around unstoppable murderers, death, fire, being chased, etc.
Now that I'm older, nightmares revolve around things like being forced into impossible logic puzzles without a choice, jarring ugly hideous colors, telephone ringers that are far too loud, nerve damage, and trying to do things and being unable to force my body to move the right way.
So now instead of waking up from a nightmare and going "...well, that was scary, but there's actually nobody in my room who wants to kill me, fancy that." I wake up from nightmares, lay there a while thoughtfully, and get out of my bed to make sure that the carpet hasn't been replaced with an enormous 404 TEXTURE NOT FOUND error message and I can still click -both- mouse buttons and none of the TV channels are "The Channel You Can't Ever Turn Off".
It would be nice to pass this off as a side effect of going off my medication, but... I don't think it is. I think it's my own fault that I'm going to be sitting awake for a while with an unreasoning fear of "a color somewhere between beige plaid and grape cheddar".
--- Edit:
... My reactions have changed, too. I used to get good and freaked out for a bit, then roll over and go back to sleep.
Now I get good and freaked out, then get out of bed and post here and go find people on MUCKs and IMs and whatnot so I can be comforted by their normali... their predicta... ... their existence.
