Recordkeeping: Hidden Paws COMPLETE
Jul. 8th, 2020 11:20 amHidden Paws doesn't really have a story, so here is the story which I have made up:
You are some kind of floating omnipotent being who has noticed that it is snowing on your dozens of tiny islands. Because your 120-some cats are out in the snow, you decide to go find them and give them a boop, because booping a cat is always a good way to make sure it's all right. While you're at it, you might as well collect a bunch of yarn balls too.
So you float around, manipulating boxes and opening window shutters and such, until you find a cat or a yarn ball to collect. Then you boop it until it emits love particles, visualized as floating hearts. Alternately, you pick up the yarn.
Eventually, you've done that to all the cats and yarn balls and you win, yay.
So this is a 3D hidden object game with cutely low-poly graphics and cutely low-poly cats, and it feels pretty good. It's charming, the music is soothing, and in general it's a very good time.
The controls take some Extreme Getting Used To particularly if you're in WASD mode. The only other complaint I have here is that the hint system is ... imprecise. It'll show you some gray rocks and you'll go "ah, so the thing I'm looking for is on these gray rocks, that'll be easy, there's only one set of rocks in the level that isn't covered in white snow!" and you'll go look there.
Eventually you'll discover that the thing you wanted to find is on the white, snow-covered rocks and you will feel a shattering sense of betrayal and wrongness in the universe for about five seconds before you get over it.
Aside from that... good game. A good time. They have two other catfinding games, one is a mystery (?? I am curious HOW??) and one is another relaxing catfinder except it's summer and in a different setting.
I kinda want to buy both.
