Game: Aquaria
Played Before Now: No
Time played: Between 15-20 hours
Finished? We're going to say "Yes". Or I am, anyway.
Will I Go Back? No.
How Much is it Right Now? $10.
Did I pay that? Dunno. Bundle, and whatnot.
Recommended? Yes. Provisionally.
I liked Aquaria. I really did! I loved the music. The art design was gorgeous. The game was, generally, pretty fun.
However, around hour eight, I started going "You know, I think I'm really about ready to be done here. I hope this ends soon." By hour 12, I was going "Okay SERIOUSLY let's be DONE with this now." And by hour 15 or so I was ready to just give up. Then the endgame faced me up against a six-form morphing boss fight which constantly restarted me at Form 1 every time I died. When I got to form 6 and inches from winning and died because I hadn't stockpiled enough soup, I decided "Y'know what? Let's youtube the ending and just call this a win, okay?"
So I did.
I am not sorry. I have had enough of this particular good thing.
Anyway! Uhm. Substance. I really don't actually want to talk about the plot here. The plot went places I was not expecting this plot to go, right up until the end. What can I talk about... hmm.
There was a leitmotif in the musical score that PAID OFF big by the ending. That felt good. Constantly going "I know that tune. I bet I can play that." every few minutes as the background music shifted -was an important thing-. I approve of this.
I missed a LOT of optional stuff. Most of it was tucked behind bosses I didn't feel like fighting because it would have padded the game out even more and I JUST WANTED IT TO END. So... well, I don't get to dress Naija like a jellyfish. Alas.
Each and every form had multiple uses, which was nice. No form was a one-trick seapony. Very good. I approve of that too.
Took me MULTIPLE HOURS to realize I could change forms by tapping the number keys. Arghlefuck. Y'ALL GOT TO TELL ME THESE THINGS, GAME DESIGNERS.
On the whole, good game! Very pretty! Great soundtrack! I never want to play this again. Fuck that last boss forever.
Ugh. I am -exhausted-. Hat, give me something that will perk me up?

See you again next time.
