Ramenbox: Not A Ramen edition.
Feb. 5th, 2010 02:22 pmToday's kinda-ramen: Wu Mu Garlic-Sesame Rice Noodles..
I've been looking forward to this one for a couple of reasons. First, it came in a very distinct-looking wax paper packet. Second, it had a sort of weird pastelike topping on the cover. Third, the serving directions involved steaming it in hot water and then dumping out the water, then mixing in the packets and serving it dry.
I may cook other ramen this way in the future! I may cook THIS noodle in that way in the future. At first I really didn't think this was going to be all that good. It tasted... underwhelming. Then I shrugged and stopped trying to analyze, and just tucked in. The flavor grew more intense as I ate more. It's -very- garlic and not a lot of sesame. But it had a very tasty noodle texture, and ... what I can only describe as a very "clean" feel in the mouth. The very small amount of oil from the packet I added wasn't enough to overwhelm the noodles. And, indeed, I think any kind of broth would have destroyed the delicate nature of the flavors involved.
That reddish, thick paste on the cover? Complete bull. Did not show. Apparently that's a serving suggestion. When they tell me what the hell it is, I will eat some of it. Until then, I will eat their noodles. Omnomnom.
