Crank the sirens! Crank the freaking sirens!

Some of you out there might've heard this thanks to my active flailing last night, but we're gone. We're history. We're MOVING.

That is, we're moving to another local apartment building. It doesn't even suck! Hooray! This morning the boyfriend and I celebrated with Breakfast and Second Breakfast bookmarking the rental signing agreement, that traditional ceremony in which they agree to give us a place to live and we agree to give them our kidneys and our arms and two other organs and/or organ-like tissue structures of their choice. Also we got to poke around the apartment. My major objection is that most of the closets are too small to hide in, but that's not really entirely awful depending on who you ask. So we got down, got busy, got out the checkbook and ooh baby had a transaction tonight, uh-huh, uh-huh.

There will now be a brief pause for the trumpet and xylophone solo while I collect my thoughts.

Okay.

While we were eating something else that I'd been idly stewing in the back of the giant melting pot I laughingly call a mind came out and hit me in the forehead. It popped to mind as the boyfriend mocked me savagely for ordering corned beef hash. "You can't mock me for that!" I retorted. "You have WEIRD MOUTH ENZYMES. You're a BAD PERSON."

...of course, this is true. However there's a massive and sorta scary number of people out there who have "weird enzymes". You may know them. You may be one of them. Do onions taste hideous and wrong? Can you completely fail to understand why anyone would eat broccoli or certain types of cheese or salmon? Does garlic or bacon or possibly garlic bacon make you scream like a little girl and stab people with household objects? You may have weird enzymes. I can't help that. (Do I LOOK like Alton Brown? I didn't think so.) However I -do- want to know why.

To be honest, I don't know that enzymes are the root of this. Maybe it's a nervous system function, taste. However -- brace yourselves, I'm going to make one of those shocking insights I'm so famous for -- THINGS TASTE DIFFERENT TO DIFFERENT PEOPLE.

Why? Is anyone studying this? Are there, like... oral chemists out there who are researching the matter? I'm really curious now and I don't know where to start looking. Is this just one of those mysteries of the universe that is never going to get a solution? Help. Where do I start looking for answers or at least theories researched by people who know better than me? Be my Google, loyal readers. I beg you.

Aside from that... mmh. Gotten addicted to my first 4X Strategy game, Galactic Civilizations 2. It's starting to push my interest in gaming back out of the hole it was bogged down into. Oblivion was a complete mud-pool, unfortunately. Amusing to play in until it dries up and you realize how dirty you feel after. I thought it would be but I let myself get shoved along by the hype and glowing reviews of early adopters. Maybe post-patch it'll be worth caring about.

... Actually I have a lot more interest in -things-. In general. Hooray for energy, god damn it.

Now to see if I still have a writing job at -all- left.
