Also, re: CoH, you -can- in a respect lose experience - but it's not actual Exp -loss-, like later Diablo 2 difficulties, Ragnarok Online, or FF11. Instead it's more like Dark Age of Camelot, where each death after your first per level incurs a 'debt' of sorts. Half your EXP goes to pay off this debt until it's gone, at which time you earn full EXP again.
However, the completely equipment-less system in CoH all but abolishes the petty price-gouging and camping one single damn spawn problems that always plauge most other MMOs. It makes me gleeful. Also, the customization is both awesome and not awesome. I can make an "Otaku McPocky" who punches enemies in his grease-stained shirt and blue-jeans, but I can't make a Japanese schoolgirl straight out of yon Magical Girl series du jour. ....though I -could- probably make a less-detailed version of Utena. Hm.
