Dream of last night: Wonderland themed. Was walking in a circle around a huge table, trying to have tea with a number of other girls. There was a hole in the bottom of every teacup, and we had to keep circling the table, so it would drain out between stops. We'd been promised... uh, something? ...at the next course. Possibly jam. But we couldn't get there because nobody was able to actually drink the tea.

The solution I came up with was to stop and pour for the girl behind me, and they would put their thumb in the hole and drink while on the move and then stop and pour for the girl behind THEM, etc. Plenty of milk/cream was used because otherwise it would've burned.

I think this eventually rippled around enough that everyone had some tea and then I woke up. Presumably it's jam tomorrow.

Tomorrow all the girls will be upset because of the flavor. It's some really hideous jelly, like Buddha's Hand marmalade or something, and there will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Jam. It's truly outrageous.

You know, if it's learning to code Wonderland-style you're after, there are Zachtronics games for that.

If I had more time I would offer to try to resurrect one of my ancestors' ZZT things that allowed the player to place components and wires to make little logic circuits and subjected them to test sequences to see whether they had the correct function.

I probably should've replied to [personal profile] kjorteo instead? Let's try that again…

Wiring ZZT to explode and blow up the ocean is easy. A lot of ZZTers used to deliberately end their games by causing runtime errors instead of gracefully quitting to DOS just for effect because it was extra spooky or whatever their game was going for. Unfortunately, the only way to do that I personally remember involves putting the code for things they aren't supposed to be able to do (like moving) into scrolls, and that requires the player to touch and read the scroll to properly crash everything. I know there are ways to make objects runtime without requiring the player to do anything but I forget what they are.

Ahem. Trying that again:

As I was saying to [personal profile] xyzzysqrl, if I had more time, I would offer to try to resurrect one of my ancestors' ZZT things that allowed the player to place components and wires to make little logic circuits and subjected them to test sequences to see whether they had the correct function. c..c

I'm not sure whether making a Zachtronics-style coding puzzler in ZZT or playing one would be harder, but both sound like the sort of thing that would make me *squeeeeaaaaaaak* forever.

I could send you his prototype boards to start from if you wanted to do the former. He made the engine for it and like five or six basic puzzles, I think.

Hmm, actually, I wonder whether a slightly-TIS-100-alike is possible…

There's no way that I'd be able to expand on them, but I'd love to see what you've got hold of!

Intriguing as that sounds, I think I already have enough projects to consume my time without taking on his as well, thank you.

I was thinking it'd have to be something more physical like SpaceChem or Infinifactory, but figuring out even how that would work takes more of a brainpower commitment than I can afford to spare at the moment, alas.

Edit: Actually, like [personal profile] davidn said, I really can't work on it or do much of anything besides look and say "ooh that's neat," but I admittedly am curious.

Even in your dreams you're all about solving adventure game puzzles with bizarre toon logic. That's actually kind of admirable.
